The character Harry in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has many changes throughout his life. This all starts the night when his parents died and Harry survived the killing curse. Without knowing it he went through one of the biggest changes of his life that night as he was taken away to live with his Aunt and Uncle in the muggle world.
Harry then went through a normal ten years until the day when his first letter from Hogwarts arrived. Before Harry had the chance to read it, his Uncle took it and read it, becoming more angry and worried as he read on. He took his family and Harry to a house in the middle of the ocean where he thought the wizards couldn't find them, which was a big change in the lives of his family and Harry. This change of environment was described as the hardest challenge in Dudley, Harry's cousin's, life.
Hagrid, who is to become Harry's lifelong friend, collects Harry and tells him that he is a wizard.
How Harry understands his identity is changed in that moment. Hagrid takes Harry to Diagon Alley to get his things for Hogwarts. As a reader we are fully engaged by the change in setting from the muggle world to a completely mythical and magical world.
